Dear AFS Families
Digital Citizenship Presentation
This week we were privileged to have Constable ‘G’ and Constable McDonald from the Calgary Police Service visit our Grade 5 and 6 classes. They taught about Digital Citizenship and how to be safe online. Our students were surprised to hear how quickly hackers can obtain information from public websites, games and APPs. Our grades 1-4 students have the opportunity to meet with the Calgary Police Service team in June.
Dressing for the Weather
For the first time since January 30, students were able to go outside for lunch recess. There were cheers in the building when we announced the temperature. Parents, please ensure that your children have warm jackets, mitts, scarves, toques and boots to go outside for recess. Even if they ride the warm bus to and from school, children need to be dressed warmly to play outside.
School Council Meeting
Our monthly School Council Meeting is on Thursday, February 20 at 6:30 in the Learning Commons. The grade 1 team will be presenting.
No School
There is no school tomorrow or Friday due to Teacher’s Convention and we wish you all a Happy Family Day on Monday, February 17. We welcome students back on Tuesday, February 18.
Mark Your Calendars | Family Literacy/Numeracy Night
We are so excited to invite you to our annual Family Literacy/Numeracy Night on Thursday, February 27 from 5:30 – 7:00pm. Our theme is SPACE! Teachers set up stations with activities you can do at home. If you wonder what your children can do at home besides be on a device, come and get some ideas! This year we will have a draw for two scooters and helmets – one for K-2 and one for Gr. 3-6. Thank you to parent council for providing these wonderful prizes!
Casino | May 31/June 1
The Parents of Annie Foote Fundraising Society is excited to share that we have been granted another casino event at ACE CASINO AIRPORT (40 Aero Crescent NE) on SATURDAY, MAY 31 and SUNDAY, JUNE 1. We are eligible for an event like this every eighteen to twenty four months. The funds raised from events like this is what enables us to provide students with field trips, in class speakers, new technology, school resources, and more, at little or no cost to families.
This is where you come in – WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! You do not need to have prior experience or have police clearance. Volunteering at a casino can be a lot of fun. You’ll get a free meal (the food at this casino has been amazing in the past), and it’s a great way to meet other people from the Annie Foote School Community. We would love to see some new faces this year!
Information on the various positions will be available on the Annie Foote School website. Shifts each day will run from 11am-7pm, 6:30pm-3:30am, and 11pm-3:30am (this shift is only for the Count Room). We need nineteen volunteers (plus backups) each day. Please reach out to Leslie at afsparentcouncil@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering!
The Week Ahead
