Dear AFS Families,
Please note that this Friday, February 28 there is NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS. Staff have a non-instructional day.
This Wednesday, Annie Foote School is participating in Pink Shirt Day. We will also have a learning celebration and our book draw for this month's virtue, kindness. If your child does not have a pink shirt, try to wear anything pink (socks, scarf, leggings...)
Pink Shirt Day is a day to raise awareness of bullying and to promote kindness and acceptance. It's celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of February.
How it started
- In 2007, two students in Nova Scotia organized a protest after a fellow student was bullied for wearing pink
- The students convinced hundreds of their classmates to wear pink the next day
- The act of kindness spread across the school, community, and country
What it means
- It's a day to celebrate diversity and to create environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected
- It's a day to encourage people to be inclusive, welcoming, and supportive
- Pink Shirt Day is a symbol of solidarity against bullying in all its forms
