AFS Weekly Message Feb. 5-9 | Enrolment, D.E.A.R., Literacy & Numeracy Night, Wet Clothing, Alien In-Line, Volunteers, Spirit Week
Our numbers continue to grow at Annie Foote School! We now have over 500 students as part of our learning community. We have been very fortunate to receive additional funds from both a Student Enrolment Growth Grant and Learning Disruption Intervention. I’m thrilled to announce that we will be forming a third Grade 5 class and adding a Literacy/Numeracy Intervention teacher effective this Monday, February 5. Ms. Jessica Buzanko will be moving out of Kindergarten and into the full-time role as the Intervention teacher and Ms. Deborah Sughrue, former Assistant Principal of Annie Foote School, is going to be our new grade 5 teacher! Ms. Theresa Lam will be the new teacher for the Temple Kindergarten AM and PM classes. Parents of students impacted by these changes have already been contacted. Smaller class sizes and additional learning support will positively impact our students.
As we welcome new teachers, we have had to say good-bye to two of our wonderful Education Assistants. Both Ms. Dayna Tyson and Ms. Heather Glute have accepted positions at other schools. We thank them for their dedication to our students and our school community. I look forward to introducing to our new Education Assistants soon.
What a great day to D.E.A.R. Several times throughout the day our students had to Drop Everything And Read! Today was ‘dress like a character from a book’ to kick off our Spirit Week.
Coming Soon - Family Literacy and Numeracy Night - Thursday, February 8 from 5:30 – 7:00pm.
The evening proves to be an exciting night for families to play together while learning about literacy and math! Your child is coming home with an Invitation today. A digital copy of the invitation can be found under Resources.
Wet Clothing
With the warming weather we are seeing more students with wet clothing after coming in from recess. Almost daily, we also have children in K, Grades 1 and 2 who have accidents. We ask that you pack a clean pair of socks, pants and under garments in your child’s backpack so that there is minimized disruption to their learning if they need a change of clothing.
Alien In-Line Skating - Begins this week!
We are looking forward to beginning our in-line skating program in our Physical Education classes for the next 3 weeks. Students received a letter on Wednesday describing the program. An Acknowledgement of Risk – CONSENT FORM was also sent home yesterday. The consent form MUST BE RETURNED IN ORDER FOR YOUR CHILD TO PARTICIPATE!!!! A copy is attached under Resources for you. If your child has a certified helmet, we ask that it is used, otherwise helmets will be provided and the school will give your child a hairnet to use.
Parent Volunteers
We would love to have you volunteer at Annie Foote School. We not only need volunteers for field trips but for indoor events as well. We are pleased to tell you that our students will be taking part in Alien In-Line skating again this year. We need some parents who can help us in the gym with preparing the students to skate (tying skate laces etc.). If you have, or are willing to get, security clearance, please let Mr. Bill Murray (wemurray@cbe.ab.ca) or the office know.
Effective Friday, February 9, parents and guardians will be able to register to volunteer online in the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. Members of the community without a child in the system will also create a SchoolEngage account to utilize this program.
