AFS Weekly Message Jan. 15-19 | Happy New Year, Storyboard, Home Reading, Fun Lunch, Weather
Happy New Year!
What a difference a month makes! Despite the cold, the students are busy with their learning in their warm classrooms.
A great way to celebrate with snow is to make “tire sur la neige” or maple syrup taffy. This is a French-Canadian tradition that Mr. Leonard shared with the grade 4 students and our visiting teacher from Australia! Ms. Fiona Prentice is from Adelaide, Australia and is on a teacher exchange with Ms. Brewer in Grade 5 for two weeks. Ms. Prentice has never felt temperatures below +10 so she is experiencing a true Canadian winter.

Where is Your Story From?
Our Student Voice group is gathering data to make a display board in our school. The board will represent where are students’ families are from and which languages are spoken at Annie Foote School. Teachers will be asking their students this upcoming week, however, please feel free respond to this email as well to tell me where your story is from and which language you speak at home. J
Home Reading Program
Students began a home reading program this week as an extension of their reading in the classroom. Your child will be bringing home two books to read on Thursday evenings. You have a week to keep these books. All home reading books must be returned on Thursday in exchange for new books. Parents are asked to read these books together.
Students who do not return their books will have a grace period of three weeks to find the book(s) before we require payment for the book(s). The home reading facilitator will let the teacher know and the teacher will send home a reminder to return the books.
Our home reading books have been purchased through grant funding from Indigo and an SUTP fundraising event.
Healthy Hunger
Our next Healthy Hunger is Subway on January 25. Orders must be placed no later than January 19 (January 18 for Kindergarten). Please see this information for SUBWAY under Resources. If you have not signed up for Healthy Hunger yet, please refer to these instructions. Healthy Hunger
