NED Show
Thank you to Ms. Buzanko for organizing the NED Show for our students. NED show N= Never give up, E = encourage others, D = do your best. Please see the message that went out on Friday, May 3 for information of how to order yo-yos if you wish. Ms. Grover’s class made these flags which were part of the NED package!
Our Breakfast Club is welcoming more students every day. As a reminder, the program is for students who have not had breakfast at home for a variety of reasons; however, the club targets those families who would most benefit from food support. Students who live in Temple must be at the school at 8:45am to take part in breakfast. Bus students coming from Skyview have the opportunity to ‘grab and go’ a breakfast and should go directly to the library when they arrive.
Are You Moving?
If you know that your family is moving outside of the Annie Foote School area and will not be attending our school next year, please let the office know as soon as possible. This is important information as we plan moving forward.
Spring into Fun!
Our spring music concert is taking place on Thursday, May 30 at 5:30 PM. This one-hour concert will feature music that our K-6 students have been preparing in their music classes. Due to the capacity of the gym, we ask that only parents and siblings attend the evening concert. There will be an afternoon dress rehearsal for additional family members or parents who cannot attend the evening concert. The time will be announced soon. Please see our poster!
Hats on for Mental Health
Wear a hat on Wednesday! Every year since 1951, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has hosted Mental Health Week. This year, May 6 - 12 marks the 73rd year. This year, the theme is centered on the healing power of compassion. Many of our teachers have been using the Compassion Project- lessons that introduce Social Emotional Learning competencies to teach students how to practice compassion and empathy, identify emotions and develop a growth mindset.
New Lunch Drop-off Procedure – Beginning Monday, April 29
We have had an increasing number of families dropping off lunches for their children and asking office staff to call and distribute the food. This results in disruptions to learning and school routines and takes our staff away from the work they have to the school. It is the responsibility of the parents to pack a lunch and snacks in their child’s backpack. In case of an emergency, the following procedure must be followed:
- There will be a lunch drop-off box just inside the front door of the school. Please ring the bell and place the lunch in the box.
- Clearly have the lunch labelled with your child’s first and last name and teacher’s name and room number.
- Make sure your child is aware that you will be dropping off a lunch.
- At 12:00 pm, a supervisor will deliver the lunches to the classrooms. No lunches will be distributed after 12:00pm
Reading Give it a Shot!
It's that time of year again! We will be starting Reading Give it a Shot on Wednesday, May 1 and it will end on June 12. Our School Council has graciously donated the funds so that we will be able to purchase prizes from Pro Hockey Life again this year. Students will also win trading cards for each 50 - 100 min that they read.
Our school participates in this program as it helps to develop a love of reading and increases student motivation to read more. Reading is viewed as the best way for students to develop skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. By encouraging reading, this program opens the minds of children to a world of knowledge and imagination. It also encourages our students whom are learning the English Language.
