AFS Weekly Message Oct. 2-6 | Terry Fox Run, Orange Shirt Day, School Council
What a fantastic week we’ve had at Annie Foote school! It was such a pleasure to meet your hard-working School Council members on Monday night. Please know you are invited to join any meetings to learn and make decisions about the school See the important School Council notice below.
On Tuesday, September 26, we held our annual Terry Fox Run. Many thanks to Mr. Bill Murray for organizing this event. Our students wore their ‘I’m Running For….’ signs proudly as they ran around the school yard. Student spent time learning about Terry Fox and some of the work is displayed in the school.
Our staff and students engaged in honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by participating in an Orange Shirt Day. Students painted rocks to give back to the land as ‘gifts’ of love, respect, kindness etc. The Grade 5 students also made tree cookies to adorn our fence. We were thrilled to have five drummers from various Cree nations come to lead us in a Friendship Round Dance. I hope you find time to participate in numerous Truth and Reconciliation activities in the city tomorrow, including the CBE gathering at Fort Calgary at 9:00am.
Important School Council Message
Our School Council Annual General Meeting will take place on October 19, 2023. Please come out to learn more about the council and how we provide a positive impact to students’ learning. Positions on the council include Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Volunteer Coordinator, and Casino Coordinator. Filling these positions is critical to being able to continue the school council and provide the students with new technology, field trips, swimming, bussing for these events and so much more. Without participants on school council these events wouldn’t be possible or the cost would be passed on to the families. We look forward to seeing you on October 19.
