Happy Thanksgiving to all of our families who celebrate!    We are thankful this week for our gardening club who have been busy preparing our Environmental Learning Centre for the winter and cleaning out weeds in the front beds.  Thanks to Ms. Robb and Ms. Jupo for leading the club.

Soft Entry

We are very pleased with our new soft entry.  Students are coming into the school earlier and are prepared for learning by 9:05.  Please note that outside supervision begins at 8:50am and students are welcomed into their classrooms at 8:55.  Any student arriving after 9:05 must report to the office.

Group Chats

While students on group chats and social media outside of school hours is a parent responsibility, oftentimes the result of negative interactions makes its way into the classroom.  As parents, please remember that children who are novices at social interaction with developing brains lack the ability to fully comprehend the consequences of their actions.  What feels to a 9, 10 or 11 year old like a silly comment can have very real negative consequences.  Learning how to communicate online is an essential skill that takes time to develop.  We ask that you monitor your child’s group chats to ensure that they are safe and free from vulgar language, threatening messages and mean comments.  This responsibility lies with parents. Thank you.

Digital Citizenship

As we develop our Digital Citizenship goal for this upcoming year, we would love to hear from you.  Please complete the following survey to share your ideas.

Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner! Your child is welcome to wear a costume or orange/black to school on Thursday, October 31.

At Annie Foote School we ask that everyone respects the following guidelines when selecting costumes to be worn at school:

  • Students must be able to participate in all regular learning in their classes (sit in their desk, participate in gym etc.)
  • Masks, coverings or make-up that results in staff being unable to identify students should not be worn.  We need to be able to identify students at all times.
  • Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, drugs or are revealing (undergarments or bathing suits) are not permitted.
  • Any fake weapons should not be brought to school.
  • Costumes that could be offensive or suggest a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage, race or religion are not allowed.

As we have students from Kindergarten to Grade 6, we need to be mindful of creating a safe environment for all and think about how costume choice may impact others in the school.

Candy - We know that students learn best when they eat healthy food.  As such, we ask that parents limit the amount of candy sent to school before and after Hallowe’en.

Students are not to bring any candy or treats to share with the class for Halloween.  Although we know you mean well, there are factors such as food allergies that need to be considered.  Thank you.

We are looking forward to a great day on Thursday, October 31!
