Secret Path Week

Our staff and students are participating in Secret Path Week.  The goal of this week is to continue building cultural understanding and creating a path towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.  A young boy from northern Ontario, Chanie Wenjack, attended residential school and attempted to walk 600 kms home to avoid abuse at the school. Unfortunately he made it approximately 46 kms before dying from exposure to cold and wet.

AFS students are walking and talking about Chanie’s story.  The number of steps (converted to kms) is being recorded to see how far we can walk!

Terry Fox Run

thank you for your donations of “Twoonies for Terry”.  Our school raised almost $500 for cancer research.

With colder weather upon us, please be sure that your children are not waiting outside earlier than these times.

Hallowe’en

Halloween is just around the corner! Your child is welcome to wear a costume or orange/black to school on Thursday, October 31.

At Annie Foote School we ask that everyone respects the following guidelines when selecting costumes to be worn at school:

  • Students must be able to participate in all regular learning in their classes (sit in their desk, participate in gym etc.)
  • Masks, coverings or make-up that results in staff being unable to identify students should not be worn.  We need to be able to identify students at all times.
  • Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, drugs or are revealing (undergarments or bathing suits) are not permitted.
  • Any fake weapons should not be brought to school.
  • Costumes that could be offensive or suggest a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage, race or religion are not allowed.

As we have students from Kindergarten to Grade 6, we need to be mindful of creating a safe environment for all and think about how costume choice may impact others in the school.

Candy - We know that students learn best when they eat healthy food.  As such, we ask that parents limit the amount of candy sent to school before and after Hallowe’en.

Students are not to bring any candy or treats to share with the class for Halloween.  Although we know you mean well, there are factors such as food allergies that need to be considered.  Thank you.

We are looking forward to a great day on Thursday, October 31!
