Dear AFS Families,

We are thrilled to have our Grade 6 patrols active at our crosswalk again this year.  They just finished their training and are excited to help you and your children cross the street safely.  Parents – please show your children the safest way to cross the street and use our crosswalk!  Rain or shine – our students are in action!

Orange Shirt Day – Thursday, September 26

Annie Foote School will be recognizing and learning about Orange Shirt Day on Thursday, September 26. We encourage all of our staff and students to wear orange!  Teachers have prepared learning activities this week as part of our commitment towards Truth and Reconciliation.

“September 30, 2021 marked the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day that coincides with Orange Shirt Day. This day recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind, and the survivors of these institutions.  Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at residential school. Webstad’s story provides an opportunity for CBE students and staff to reflect on the history, legacy, and implications of the residential schools era. On this day, we encourage CBE staff and students to share ways that we can work together toward truth and reconciliation. “

Lockdown Drill

The safety of all students and staff of Annie Foote is of great importance. To that end, we have been working to establish appropriate safety measures for the various situations that may occur and affect our staff and students.

It is a reflection of the changes in our society that we must add variations to our safety drills. The teachers will be instructing students regarding their role during a drill of this kind. No one is allowed to enter or leave the building during a lockdown procedure. As part of our procedures, one long bell heard outside indicates a threat and students/parents should move away from the building, possibly evacuating to our off-site location at St. Thomas More. Three short bells heard outside means the building is secure and students/parents should enter the building.

Nations Vision

We are thrilled that Nations Vision has partnered with Annie Foote School again this year.  Your child came home with a consent form today to receive a free eye exam.  Last year over 40 of our students received free glasses as a result of their exam.  We hope you take advantage of this great program.  Consent Form
