Dear AFS Families,
AFS Weekly Message September 25
What a great week we’ve had an Annie Foote. Our Grade 4 students visited the nearby wetland on Wednesday afternoon. While there, they saw Canada geese, cat tails and even mushrooms growing. Thanks to Ms. Robb and Ms. Jupo for taking the students outside on such a beautiful day.
Orange Shirt Day
I am so proud of our staff and students for the many ways they recognized Orange Shirt Day. What an amazing sense of community when so many were dressed in Orange – thank you! Learning took place in a variety of ways including learning Indigenous songs and drumming in music class, going outside on the land, watching videos, reading books, creating orange shirts and feathers and participating in an online book reading with author Courtney De Friends. Thank you to Parent Council for providing the funds for our Grades 1-4 students to engage with the book “Instead of a Person”. Please see pictures from our day.
New Entry Plan
Beginning on October 7, we are going to have a “soft entry” into the school. Instead of lining up in the mornings, students will be welcome to come into the school through their regular doors beginning at 8:55 AM. Outside supervision will continue at 8:50 AM. A soft entry will allow students to stagger into the building and be ready for learning at 9:05 AM. Especially at our elementary door, it takes a lot of time for students to come in, take their shoes off and get to their classrooms. We hope by using a soft entry our students will meet their teachers inside settle into their rooms by 9:05 AM.
Terry Fox Run
Annie Foote will be participating in this year’s Terry Fox Marathon of Hope on Thursday October 4. Students will be running or walking outside as a school. Please help show your support by bringing in a Toonie for Terry any day next week.
Thank you for supporting our school in the fight against cancer and keeping Terry’s dream alive! #terryfoxschoolrun @terryfoxfoundation
Indoor Shoes
Please ensure that your children have a pair of indoor shoes. So far the playground has been quite dry, but ALL students (including grade 5 and 6 students) do need to change into indoor shoes. This will be especially important when we begin to have snow.
Lunch Drop Off
If you need to bring in a lunch for your child, please be sure that it is in our Lunch Drop Off bin before 12:00 PM. Our lunch supervisors check the bin at 12:00 PM on their way to their assigned classrooms.
