Dear AFS Families

What a fantastic start to the school year we've had! It’s been such a joy to welcome our students back to Annie Foote — their energy, smiles, and excitement have filled our hallways and classrooms with a wonderful sense of community.

We truly appreciate your support in ensuring a smooth and successful beginning to the school year.  Your support, and enthusiasm mean the world to us, and we're so excited for all the learning ahead.

This is the first of the weekly messages you will receive each Friday.  Today I am sharing many reminders and important information for the upcoming year.

Soft Entry

Now that you and your children know where to meet the teachers outside, we will begin our soft entry.  This means that our doors open at 8:55 am and students are welcome to come into the school and go directly to their classes.  Learning begins at 9:05am. Any students arriving after the 9:05 bell are late and will be required to sign in through the office.

Kindergarten to Grade2 Teachers will continue to dismiss students from their line ups after school.

Important Reminders for a Safe Start to the School Year

We currently have three buses arriving from Skyview each day. Please help us keep our students safe by not stopping or dropping off your children in the designated bus zone.

If your child normally takes the bus but will be picked up instead, it’s very important that you call the school office to let us know. We take attendance as students board the buses, and if a child is unaccounted for, we begin searching for them — which delays bus departure for everyone.

We’re excited to have our Grade 6 patrollers joining us soon! In the meantime, we kindly ask that you and your children use the crosswalk and practice safe crossing habits.

U-turns in front of the school are both dangerous and illegal. We've already seen several occur, and we ask for your cooperation in keeping our drop-off and pick-up zones safe for all.

Breakfast Club

We’re thrilled to offer a Breakfast Club at Annie Foote School! This program helps support families facing financial challenges by providing a healthy start to the day. You can read the full program description HERE. but we’d like to highlight a few key details:

  • Temple students are welcome to join the Breakfast Club starting at 8:45 a.m. This timing allows them to eat before the arrival of our bus students.
  • Skyview students will receive a “grab and go” breakfast from the learning commons after they get off the bus.

Lunch Drop-Off Procedures

We understand that sometimes lunches are forgotten — it happens! If you are dropping off a lunch for your child, please:

  • Clearly label the lunch with your child’s first and last name, grade, and teacher’s name.
  • Place it in the Lunch Drop-Off bin just inside the front doors before 11:50 a.m.

Also, please remember to pack any necessary utensils (forks, spoons, etc.), as we are unable to provide them at school.

We Need You! Join Our School Council

Our first School Council meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons. We’re excited to have our Grade 4/5 teachers presenting, and we’d love for you to join us!

Many of our previous Council members have now “graduated” along with their children, so we are actively looking for new parents and guardians to get involved.

School Council plays a vital role in enhancing the learning experience at Annie Foote. Without a functioning council, we are unable to support:

  • Field trip fees and busing
  • Special programs like swimming and in-line skating
  • Additional learning resources and technology

Being part of School Council doesn’t require a big time commitment — we meet just once a month for about 1.5 hours. It’s a great way to stay informed, contribute ideas, and make a real difference in your child’s school experience.

If you have any questions about Council roles, please contact our council members by emailing afsparentcouncil@gmail.com

We hope to see you on September 23 — your voice matters

Meet the Teacher – Save the Date!

Mark your calendars! We’re excited to welcome you to our Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, September 18 at 5:30 p.m.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, learn more about the classroom, and build a strong school-home partnership.

More details will be shared soon — we look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Heather
