AFS Weekly Update Dec. 4-8 | MindUp for Life, Kindness, Food Bank, Candygrams, Fun Lunch

It’s hard to believe it’s December already.  I hope you are enjoying the milder weather and have opportunities to be outside.

This month is a busy one with many activities at the school.

I would like to introduce you to the social-emotional learning program called MindUp for Life. The program has moved on-line and all of our staff are going to be using MindUp for Life with your children. The curriculum is based on four pillars: neuroscience, social-emotional learning, positive psychology and mindful awareness. Over the course of the year, we will be sharing MindUp for Life learning for you too!

We have noticed an increase in unkind behaviour with our students from grades 1 – 6.  Students are being physical with each other (pushing, hitting, kicking) and using inappropriate language. Annie Foote School is a place where we value positive interactions among students. Therefore, we have implemented the “Win-Win Guidelines” which help students resolve conflict without physical contact.

Our goal is to increase regulation and kindness.

Food Bank – our Leadership students are collecting items for the food bank between Monday, December 4 – 20.   This week, our school is having a Cereal Domino challenge.  We are hoping to collect 100 boxes of cereal to create something like this school!

School Council – a reminder that school council is selling bags of POPCORN for $2.50 to be eaten on the last day of school before winter break.  Your child was given an order form this week.

  • On December 13, CANDYGRAMS are being sold for $1.00
  • Our next Healthy Hunger is on December 20
  • Parent Letter for Candygrams and Healthy Hunger

The Week Ahead

Dec. 7 – Grade 6 and 2 make-up vaccinations
Dec. 8 – No School for Students.  Non-Instruction Day

Sincerely,

Heather
