​Dear Families of Annie Foote School,

What a thrill it was to meet many of you and your children last week.  I am honoured to join the Annie Foote community where teachers and students alike are excited to begin their learning journey together. 

I am originally from Saskatchewan but moved to Calgary in 1992 to begin my teaching career with the Calgary Board of Education.  My husband and I have three young adult sons who I am proud to say are graduates of the CBE.  I taught at two middle schools before becoming an Assistant Principal at Falconridge School and most recently at Elboya School.  In these settings, I learned how passionate I am about creating conditions for success for our youngest learners.

Annie Foote School (AFS) is home to students from both Temple and Skyview communities.  I look forward to developing strong connections with all families to provide a safe, caring, welcoming and respectful place for children to thrive both academically and socially. 

I believe in making myself visible and available to the school community.  As such, I will be sending out a weekly email through Messenger to share information and key dates.  I invite you to contact me through the school office or at hdscholz@cbe.ab.ca throughout the year. 

Each new school year provides opportunities to reflect on our school motto “Learning for Life".  I am anxious to collaborate with teachers, families and the community to provide opportunities for your children to engage in authentic experiences that will honour life-long learning.

Student Safety

Our two school busses will be parking directly in front of the school.  Parents are asked to park along the school field on Temple Drive.

Our Grade 6 patrollers will be out assisting with the crosswalks soon. Until then, parents are asked to be mindful of students using the crosswalk and refraining from doing U-turns in front of the school.   Student drop-off in the staff parking lot is not permitted.

Teachers ensure that Kindergarten to Grade 2 students see 'their adult' at dismissal.  Each of our classes will line up at the beginning and the end of the day. To help teachers see you clearly, we ask that you remain behind the red pylons and wave to the teachers when they call your child's name.

Dear Annie Foote Families,

It has been a busy January and February at Annie Foote School! We encourage you to visit your child's Google Classroom for exciting updates regarding their learning.

A friendly reminder that we have School Council meetings monthly at Annie Foote School and would love to have as many parents attend as possible; your voice is important. Our next meeting is March 16 at 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons.

Hello Annie Foote Families!

It is our sincere hope that you have enjoyed your summer, spending time with friends and families and enjoying the beautiful weather. We are excited to see all of our returning students on September 1, 2022.

Please note we will be finalizing class lists and families can expect to hear from their child’s teacher by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 30, along with information about our opening day.

Dear Annie Foote Families,

It is hard to believe we are at the end of the school year. This year has been another filled with many ups and downs, twists and turns, but as expected our students and school community showed resilience and perseverance. We end the year with hope, as the last final COVID restrictions are being lifted, and with the spirit of optimism for a new school year.

I am pleased to share that for the first time in over two years, we held two mini assemblies in our gymnasium just last week. It truly was a milestone for me as Principal, as it was the first time we were able to gather in a large common space. Being together again was a reminder of what is important. As Dr. Jodi Carrington always says, “we are built to have connection”.  It is those connections; the relationships we form amongst each other, which supports well-being, academic growth, and character development.

As always, it is vital for us to recognize the support that our families show us every single day. By working together, we have been able to navigate these unpredictable times and have grown closer as a community. That being said, we are saying goodbye to many of our staff members this year, with the opening of Prairie Sky School.

As we end this year and look forward to the new school year, I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and wonderful summer with so much joy! Our final day with students will be on June 28​ and please remember to check your PowerSchool account to view report cards online. They will be available on June 28 as well.

Our office will reopen on August 29 and we will welcome students back to school on September 1.

All schools within the CBE are continuing to engage and find ways to action change within our communities. Hello Annie Foote Families,

Thank you for helping us with another successful start to an exciting school year! As usual we had a busy start to the school year but it is wonderful having students in classrooms busily learning and improving each day. We have had an outstanding first term with many opportunities for our students to demonstrate their learning and even have some fun!

It was terrific to see the number of parents and students who participated in our recent Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences held virtually during November. We hope that parents have had a chance to review their student’s progress through Term 1 and discuss any concerns with teachers. I encourage all parents to stay connected with the school as we know that your involvement has a positive impact on student learning and social well-being. Our next round of Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences is scheduled for March 10th and 11th, following first semester report cards being made available during the first week of February.

Wishing students, parents, and staff a restful and rejuvenating Winter Break. I want to thank all of you for the contributions you make to support the success of your students. They have worked hard this semester and deserve a well-earned break! Our first day of school in the New Year will be on Tuesday, January 4th starting at the regular school time.

Hello Annie Foote Families, 

I am finding it hard to believe that we have arrived at the end of the 2020-2021 school year!  

Students and teachers have learned new ways of working together this year and I am so pleased with the support and engagement from our school community. These have been challenging times and we have moved through it by working together, supporting one another, and taking it one day at a time. 

June is usually a busy month at Annie Foote with many culminating events taking place. This year, many of these events are not able to take place in the same way. We have adjusted many of our activities, such as our year end Sports Day; Grade 6 Farewell Assembly, and Patrollers celebration, just to name a few. I am beyond impressed with the flexibility and understanding of our students as our celebrations could not happen in the traditional ways we were use too.

As we conclude this school year, we wish our Grade 6 students well on their transition to junior high. Sadly, we will say goodbye to several of our staff members. This year we are saying farewell to Ms. Miner, Ms. Davies, Ms. McGinn, Ms. Naicker, Ms. Vause, Ms. Lawrence, Ms. Clachrie, Ms. Dvorkin, Ms. Cave, Ms. Featherstone, Ms. Birdi and Ms. Arannilewa. We wish them all the absolute best in their next adventures. 

Our last school day together is Monday, June 28^th. You will be able to view your child's report card online via your PowerSchool account as of June 26, 2021. We are looking forward to our 2021-2022 school year. Further information about our start-up and classroom assignments will be communicated to you in August. Also, please check our website for any important updates.

​Good day Annie Foote Families,

I wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts I had during this Thanksgiving weekend. I hope you all enjoyed some time with family and friends, all while adhering to the health protocols, and maybe even a moment to yourselves.

During my moment of reflection I thought about how fast this weekend actually came! Where did this past 6 weeks go? It was a school start up like no other, lots of changes, lots of adjustments but it was accomplished with excellence. While navigating uncharted territories, the Annie Foote staff always kept students' best interests at the center of every decision we made.

Our students are coming to school everyday smiling at us with their “eyes", as they have adjusted amazingly to the mask guidelines. Our parent community has been supportive of these new protocols, and we cannot thank you enough for that. This new health measure has been implemented with ease.

When I reflect on the teachers, I have an abundance of gratitude for them as they have risen to this unbelievable challenge with grace and professionalism. They have been busy rethinking and redesigning the way they teach, all while collecting assessment information for each student to ensure their learning plan is intact. I am in awe with the students and staff as I am only one of a few lucky people who can indeed, travel throughout the school and see first hand everything in action. Learning is happening and children are happy.

Items for your review:

1. Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms of illness and keep them home until they have resolved.
2. Please remember to register your students for lunch time supervision. You can do this through your PowerSchool Account.
3. Please send your child to school with a healthy lunch and snacks. This will help us reduce visitors coming into the school, as we do our best to meet the new COVID food drop off restrictions. As always, if there is an emergency, please call the office.
4. Please send in your updated demographic forms ASAP.
5. Please ensure we have your accurate e-mail address on file. AHS protocols have changed and the school is required to provide this information to support contact tracing.
6. October 30^th is a system wide professional development day, there will be no classes. Students will return to school on November 2^nd, 2020.
7. Lastly, On October 29^th, students can choose to wear costumes or orange and black if they prefer. We kindly ask that only “COVID approved face masks" are worn and there are to be no swords, or items that could be viewed as weapons. Students must wear their costumes before coming to school as staff will not be able to support costume dressing/changing.

NOTICE

WE will be having our Annual General Meeting of the school council VIRTUALLY on October 22^nd at 6:30 pm. We would love for you to attend! This will be an online meeting through Microsoft teams. A link to the meeting will be sent by October 21^st. This meeting will include a report from myself on the happenings at school. There will also be a call for parents to volunteer for positions on the board, hence it will be a little longer than usual, but we welcome your presence!
